Yodel Woes !!!!

Cross Posted ( Very ) from The Ire of Arteman

Life has been very quiet and peaceful recently.  We have been away in France and the weather has been fantastic.

However we have been back in the UK for a week and my Zen has been seriously disturbed!!

I decided to do a couple of little upgrades to my computer system and ordered two items from an online supplier which I will not name but that I have used regularly over the last 20 years because their service has always been so good.

The current experience has not been.  Not because of a problem with the supplier, but with a delivery service.

On each occasion I ordered relatively small items and paid a high price for next day delivery.

The first problem occurred last Tuesday.

I sat at home waiting for the delivery and in mid to late afternoon I noticed ( because my study looks straight out onto the street ) a delivery driver sitting on the road just outside my drive.  He was there for a full 10 min before he walked up to the door and rang the bell and announced “your package is not in the van”.

I walked out to the van and pointed out to him that my parcel was the one closest to the door, clearly visible and fully and clearly labelled!!

I was not impressed.

The following day I ordered another item from the same supplier with delivery paid for and confirmed for Friday, 24 August.

The supplier and a delivery company provides a tracking service which allows you to check the position of your order.

I followed my order and was delighted to see that it was put out for delivery at 7:22 in the morning.

By 2030 the same day it had not arrived and was shown as having been returned to the depot

I immediately called the Yodel call centre and was verbally informed that the delivery driver had had a problem with this delivery round and my consignment had been returned to the local depot and that it would be delivered the following day Saturday, 25 August 2012.

At 8 AM on Saturday, 25 August I rechecked the Yodel tracking system and discovered that the information had been updated and Yodel now claimed that no one was at home for the delivery and that a card had been left.

I sent them an immediate e-mail stating that the information on their tracking system was untrue but as yet I have had no reply.

This consignmentJD00 022 698 2416 4868 paid for next day delivery due on 24 Aug 2012 has not arrived

I remained in all day yesterday – in full view of the road in front of my house and confirm that no attempt was made to deliver to this address.

I contacted your customer service department last evening when the consignment was shown as “ returned to depot “ and I was informed that the delivery had had problems and had been returned to the depot. I was assured that the consignment would be delivered today 25 August 2012

I rechecked the tracking at 0730this morning 25 August 2012 and it is now shown as ” No One To Receive Card Left “

This statement is untrue – no attempt was made to leave a card at this address and no card is here

I do expect delivery today 25 August 2012

Note Contacted Yodel  Manchester Call Centre at 0900 25 August 2012 – they confirm that the parcel will be delivered today 25 August 2012 and that I cannot collect it from their depot

25 August 2012 Tracked Parcel still showing as returned to Depot and NOT out for delivery

My study has a clear view straight down the Close on which we live and I can confirm that no delivery was attempted on 24 August 2012 and that no note was left

The information on the Yodel tracking system is a barefaced lie !!!  My anger has been considerably increased by the fact that I have been give two different reasons for the failure of delivery – the first that the driver had had a technical problem – and the second ( which is clearly an untruth ) that nobody was available to accept the delivery and that a note was left ( no attempt at delivery was made – and no note left ) !!!!!

At the same time I phoned their Manchester call centre and was assured that the consignment would go out for delivery and would be delivered on Saturday, 25 August 2012 and that it was not possible for me to visit their depot to collect the item myself.

Throughout Saturday I checked the Yodel tracking system which persistently reported that the item had been ” returned to the depot ” and that it was not shown as out for delivery.

As of the afternoon of Saturday 25th of August 2012 the item has not been delivered and the next due delivery day is Tuesday, 28 August.

No delivery 25 August 2012

Knowing that I am not alone is no consolation

Yodel have already figured on BBC Watchdog and there are multiple on line complaints

I shall encourage my supplier to follow the lead of John Lewis, Matalan and Mothercare and terminate their contract with Yodel – I am also aware that there is growing pressure for Amazon to terminate their contract with Yodel
